Scottrade or Etrade might be best

With only $100, it's not even worth worrying about dividends. Think about that when you've got $1000+.

Find a pension plan website and see what stocks they have invested in. Stocks are sold in lots of 100. If yo buy an odd lot then there is a premium on the commission.

Sign up on Etrade or some other internet stock brokerage. They provide the first 100 trades or so for free.

    Like those!

I want to do some beginner photography, so I was wondering of the best-quality, cheapest camera out there.

I'm not looking for something great, and I don't expect a cheap camera to be, so don't lecture me on that please.Cheapest non-digital camera out there for a beginner?
The first example is a Nikon D80. This is a digital SLR.

The second example looks like some sort of land camera:

For serious photography, you can find used manual SLRs with a lens on eBay for under $50. Some key brands to look for: Zenit, Praktica, Pentax. Old Nikon and Canon cameras have developed a cult-like following so they've become pretty expensive.

If you're looking for something like ';pop'; photography (lomo, Polaroid, etc.), you can find these cameras on eBay and at specialty sites. Just be wary of what film it takes and what the working condition is.Cheapest non-digital camera out there for a beginner?
You can find good used Nikon 35 mm cameras with a standard lens for under $200 on craigslist in a city near you.

Illustrator CS beginner questions * How do I........?

    (1) How do I cut an object in half?

    (2) How do I get rid of the black edge surrounding the object?

    (3) How do I cut a small portion from a photo (I want to cut my dog's body from a photo and paste it to the illustrator document, can I do that?)

Thanks so much :xIllustrator CS beginner questions * How do I........?
    1) draw a line through the object. go to window%26gt;%26gt;pathfinder. Select the object(s) and line. Click ';Divide'; in the pathfinder tool pallette. Should be the first option. Leave the object(s) and line selected. Go to Object%26gt;%26gt;expand (a menu should pop up that asks you if you want to expand the line and object, click OK) then Object%26gt;%26gt;Ungroup. Click on the line only and delete it out. Now you have the two pieces on either side. This also works with two objects that are laying on top of eachother.

    2) Dont understand. If you are talking about a shape then in your tool pallete you need to click on the outline color and make it ';none'; by selecting the box with a line through it. If you are importing a picture then you need to take it to photoshop and erase. If you are exporting a picture and want to get rid of the background then save it by file%26gt;%26gt;export%26gt;%26gt; and make it a png file.

    3) use photoshop and erase what you dont need. save the file as a tiff or jpeg. open it in an illustrator document. ';copy'; the image and ';paste'; it into your document.

Im a beginner with photoshop and i need help

    i have Photoshop CS3

I have very little knowledge on how to use this program but i really want to learn how to use this program im completely lost and everything seems so complicated ive tried tutorials but they always have something i dont understand

what tutorials should i begin with

im a complete noob with this program how should i start and how can i make progress?

    HELP would be greatly appreciated

    and thanks in advance

:] Im a beginner with photoshop and i need help
You have several options. I would consider getting yourself a couple of books. One of them is Photoshop CS3 for Dummies. The Dummies series of books are aimed at the beginner or ';complete noob'; as you put it (and don't be embarrassed by that either, we ALL started somewhere!) =)

Another good one is the Photoshop CS3 Visual Quickstart Guide. I really like this series of books, I think they are very well written. You could also try the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Classroom in a Book, these books are from Adobe itself, and they are tutorial based, so you go through it at your own speed.

You can order these books through Amazon.com.

One other source, it is a pay for use site, and that's Lynda.com. They have a very good reputation, I know people who love this site. You pay something like $25 a month, you can download and use the video tutorials at your leisure.

I know Photoshop can be very confusing, there's a lot there to learn. Take your time and experiment. And don't worry, even the experts will tell you no one can learn EVERYTHING about it, there's just too much there.

A couple of quick things to help you: when you want to try something out on an image, open the image in Photoshop, then go to the File menu, click on Save As. When the dialog box come up, give your file a new name (I often use the existing name and add something like Rev1 for Revision 1 or the date, say something like Tabby_cat_8_1_08 [use underlines instead of spaces, not absolutely necessary but a good idea just in case.] There is a drop down menu at the bottom of the dialog box, click that and select Photoshop for the file type. And make sure to select WHERE you want to save it to; you might want to create a specific folder for things you are working on. Then click Save (or OK, if it says that). What you have done is create a copy of the original file, something you always want to do. That way, if you really mess up you can always go back to that original file, or if something awful happens like Photoshop crashes before you have saved your work, you still have the original. Also, save often when you are working on something. Just hit Ctrl+S if you are on a PC or Command (apple key) +S if you are on a Mac.

Another thing: always keep your Layers palette open. As you begin to understand how Photoshop does things, you will find that Layers are your friend!

You can find out some of the basic stuff by going to the Help menu too. It does explain what the tools do and so on.

Hope that helps! Good luck and have fun!Im a beginner with photoshop and i need help
I can't even get the damn setup for cs3 to work on my computer, but I'm decent with cs2.

Youtube certain things that you would like to learn for sort of like a one on one tutorial.

The easiest thing to do is learn the name of what you want to learn, such as adding glows to lines and stuff, google glowing lines in photoshop. It works like a charm.

    Good luck =)

Total clueless beginner here!! Could someone talk me through preparing a fishing rod right from the start?

My daughter, aged eight, has decided she wants to fish and I know as much about it as she does, i.e. nothing. We will be fishing off the beach in an estuary set back a little way from the Pacific, and apparently it is mostly flathead there.

So, I've bought a light rod which says it is suitable for 3-10kg. I also got a starter pack for flathead, containing long shank hooks, sinkers and swivels.

First, the line. Presumably you just thread it through all the holes? Then what do you do? Sorry but I really have no idea ... Any help would be really appreciated! I tried asking in the shop but it was like a hypermarket where nobody knew any more about fishing than I did. Thank you so much in advance!

(What I would do if we ever actually caught anything I can't imagine!!)Total clueless beginner here!! Could someone talk me through preparing a fishing rod right from the start?
Let me answer your last comment first--catch and release.

Is the reel attached to the pole? If it is, that is your first step.

Second thing to do is run the line up through all of the eyelets.

Now comes the tricky part. Are you using worms? If so, you need to tie the swivel onto the end of your line. Do you have extra line? If not, cut about ten pieces of line (about 7 inches long) off your reel line and set off to the side before you tie on your swivel.

After you tie your swivel onto the end of the line, use one piece of line to attach your sinker (tie one end onto the swivel and the other end onto the sinker).

Then you need to attach your hook--use another piece of line and attach one end to the swivel and the other end to the hook. Try to make both pieces about the same length--four inches should do nicely.

I hope this is understandable, without pictures it is hard to explain. Make sure your knots are very tight, a fish will untie them in a second while he is fighting to get off.

Now take your worm and slide him onto the hook (or if you are using chunks of meat just slide them on). When you put the worm on, start about quarter inch from the head and slide him on until just his tail is hanging off. They also have some smelly stuff that you can put onto the bait so the catfish can find them.

Throw the line out into the water and let the sinker hit the bottom. Oh yeah, you may want to put a bobber on since you are beginners. You just put that on your line so that it sits on top of the water when the sinker is at the bottom. Give the line a little slack, if you don't have slack the fish will feel the hook and take off.

I can also give you some other advice: go down to the water and find a nice fisherman and ask him for help--better yet, have your daughter do it and he will not be able to resist. Or find a small bait shop by the water with friendly people that will help you.

If you can't find someone to help, just try what I told you and with practice and some changes hopefully you will be able to catch some fish.

One more thing--why catfish?? Starting with something smaller will be a lot easier and maybe even more fun.

Just remember, I fish in Michigan so it may be way different than how they fish where you are from.Total clueless beginner here!! Could someone talk me through preparing a fishing rod right from the start?
Oh and I was advised to use prawns for bait. Report Abuse

    Dear totally clueless,

If the rod and reel you bought does n ot have line on it you can take it back to where you bought it and they should put the line on the reel. But yes after you run the line through all the ';holes';, from the top to the bottom you want to attach the line to the reel. A simple square knot around the spool ( the part the line winds up on) should be OK for your needs. The keep a little tension on the line and reel it in until it is almost full (about 1/8-1/4 from the edge of the spool).
