What kind of electric guitar should a beginner like me get?

I want something good but I don't think I want to spend over $300 though. It's only my first.What kind of electric guitar should a beginner like me get?
Alot of it depends on what type of music you play and whether or not you like the way the guitar looks, feels and sounds. Don't commit to anything your not 100% happy with.

Go to a music shop tell them what your looking for and look around online too, musiciansfriend.com has a huge selection you can look through, but I wouldn't recomend buying a guitar there unless you played it first. If you like metal you may want to go with an ESP or their cheaper LTD, for punk Gibson Les Paul, or an epiphone one if you can't afford the gibson, fender stratocaster is one of the most popular guitars, and you can either go with squier (fenders cheaper branch) or by the mexican strat, telecasters are nice too.

The bottom line is shop around till you find something your comfortable with, good luck.What kind of electric guitar should a beginner like me get?
I thought about guitar lessons and asked an instructor the same question and he recommended starting out on an acoustic guitar. Don't know if that helps much.
it depends on witch type of music ur playing if u want clean get fender stratocastor i recomend u take a look on the recycler
I would recommend starting on an acoustic guitar, they're better to learn on because the strings are bigger and tighter than an electric guitar.
You should visit guitar stores that sell used equipment. You'll get a better quality instrument for less money (and a whole lot more class!) than purchasing new. Just tell the salesperson what it is you want (beginner electric).

Once you find a shop that you choose to buy from, try to establish a relationship with them. The closer you stay to one shop, the more valuable a customer you become and this will serve you well over the years.

Buying guitars is rather like buying cars. You're shopping for a dealership as much as the vehicle/instrument. In the future you will need (or just ';want';) all sorts of accessories and opportunities to upgrade your rig, whether it's an acoustic or an electric. And yes, there IS such a thing as guitar ';MAINENTANCE.';

I didn't even mention brand names, because I happen to play a lot of them. Every manufacturer has good product and bad product. Shop wisely!

your best bet would be going to a music go round if u dont want to spend too much. be sure to ask the guy working there what are good brands for beginners. dont buy one of the amp and guitar kits for like 200. they are very low quality. be very careful to check for quality and scratches. plug it into an amp to test the sound quality. if u know how to tune it, do it then. look for a stable, classic brand like a fender or a yamaha. dont go buying a les paul or something fancy for a beginners guitar. decide too if you want electric, acoustic or acoustic-electric. or maybe you want a bass. going to guitar center would be good too, but most of the time you can find good quality second hand guitars from people who have hardly played them in the first place. oh and invest in some lessons to get you started. good luck.
