i wanna buy a guitar off of ebay but im seeing 38-40 inches for a guitar%26amp;im like 14 years old. so is that like below average size?WHAT IS THE AVERAGE SIZE FOR A GUITAR.38'inch size acoustic guitars are those for beginner children?
Here's a very reliable rule of thumb: don't buy any guitar that specifies its overall length. Overall length is effectively meaningless - what you care about is scale length - but for some reason people selling junky guitars on the web or on eBay specifically always mention total length.
Scale length is the length of the strings from nut to saddle, that is, the length of the part of the string that vibrates. A full size guitar has a scale length of 24 1/2'; to 25 1/2';. No other measurement matters at all.
Buy a guitar off eBay and you're going to wind up with a guitar-shaped toy and the end result will be that you flush your money down the virtual toilet. Go to a guitar store where you will pay more but at least you'll buy a real guitar that you can depend on. Good luck.38'inch size acoustic guitars are those for beginner children?
Listed ';sizes'; for guitars means the overall length
of the instrument from the very top to the bottom.
A very important factor in selecting a guitar
is the ';scale-length'; of the guitar.
This is the exact length of the strings measured
from the ';Nut/Neck'; to the top of the ';saddle';
';saddle'; is the white piece that slides into the
bridge';of the guitar.
Why is this important? Because the longer the
';length'; the wider will be the spread between frets.
Persons with small hands and/or short fingers will
have a much more difficult time ';fretting'; when
the music requires a finger spread (often 5 frets).
A ';full-size'; acoustic Classical (nylon-strings)
guitar will have an overall measure about 39';
and a scale-length of 25.6';
A ';full size'; steel-strings acoustic guitar could
be as long as 42'; with a scale-length also
around 25.6';.
Both acoustics (nylon or steel strings) are
also made with a smaller overall length and
advertised as 3/4 or 1/2 size,etc. guitars.
These guitars will have a shorter scale-length
anywhere from 22.75'; to 20.5'; and are more
suitable for smaller hands or short-fingers players.
Guitars vary in sizes. If you would like an average, it is probably around 39 or 40. But Ebay isnt a good plave to buy guitars.For starters, I would suggest an aucustic starter pack. these are in the following link. These starter packs are good becuase they provide you with everything you need to start off with. Most people think a guitar is all you need, but as you will see in the link, you need picks, strap, case etc.Also, I would NEVER buy guitars off of ebay. I have heard so many sories on how much money people blow off just to find out there's a huge crack on the guitar not shown in the pictures.

Playing any instrument is great and It's something you can keep with you for the rest of your life. And no matter what, dont quit. I see some people out there with potetial, they're just too lazy to learn the boring stuff first. Also, if you would like, I STRONGLY suggest taking lessons if you don't already. You can find a teacher at a nearby music store.
Here are some youtube links to some begining lessons, if you dont want to take lessons. If you want to learn an easy song, type it in on the search bar and add guitar lesson, it's most likeley that something will come up.
