who plans to do digital painting as a freelance career?
And lastly, what size should I get? Thanks in advance.I'd like to save up for a Wacom tablet. What type of tablet is the best for a beginner...?
Get a Wacom Intuos2.
Sure they're older than the new Intuos3 models. But I still use one every day to draw with (here's an example: http://homepage.mac.com/favoritestudios/鈥?/a>
I have a small one and it does everything I need, they call it a 4x5. Here's a link to an Amazon page that describes it:

The things is, they don't produce the Intuos2 anymopre, so it's generall yout of stock. But you can find them cheap on eBay.
There's one on ebay right now for $1.04 and 2 days left.
So for less than $100 you could be in business. (And believe me, you will NEVER regret having a real Wacom tablet if you are drawing on the computer).I'd like to save up for a Wacom tablet. What type of tablet is the best for a beginner...?
for a beginner I would get the standard 4x6 tablet. learn to use that, and get the feel of using a pen as a mouse
then as you save money and get better in drawing with it. get the

Get as cheap and ad big a you can.
There are many brands available. Do a search on Google.
I would shy away from the very expensive professional models at this stage of your art life.
I agree with Kamui VII.
You can buy far cheaper pen tablets which are not Wacom to start off with, before going for a Wacom.
Many of the cheaper ones are fairly good for beginners.

You don't have to buy a Wacom product, but if you do save up for the best one that way you can do so much more with it.
If you need to get started right away, check out your local electronics store, and see what they have in stock. An inexpensive one will work just fine. I have seen one that is around $50.
Get one that you can afford. It my opinion the size really doesn't matter. It all depends on how big your monitor is.
the 6x11 and 12x19 intuos are the best for widescreens. Im planing on getting the 12 x 19 because i have a 24'; screen. But if u have 19'; screen 4x6 and 6x8 will be your size.
Ive heard also tho that wacom have driver problems on vista... and im using vista ultimate so i hope itll work.
btw im a graphic designer this pen tablets are a must to avoid carpal tunnels.
