Surfboard size & type? I am a beginner surfer, 5' 10';, 165 lbs, what size fish would be good if at all?

I started surfing in July and bought an 8' 10'; mini longboard and can get up but want something a little more maneuverable and thought a fish would be a good step down. If so, is a quad fin better than the two fin setup? Also considering a ';hybrid'; or ';hybrid fish';. Any advice?Surfboard size %26amp; type? The dream would be to go to a 7 foot board that is wide and floats you easily. After 1 surf season, you would switch to a short , fast, sleek board that would be your permanent board for the next 10 years. No one wants to make that ';intermediate'; step. Then they struggle with the ';fish'; because they have to paddle so hard to catch every wave. Borrow a few boards from friends or rent them from the shop. You don't always have to push yourself. There are times when just cruising on a wave is the most fun..Surfboard size %26amp; type? I am a beginner surfer, 5' 10';, 165 lbs, what size fish would be good if at all?
How old are you/ Where do you surf? How often do you surf? There are lots of questions that we can't answer out here in cyberspace. Go to a real surf shop. The folks there can recommend the right board for your size, skill level and local waves. You can rap with the folks who surf at the same beaches that you do, and discuss options that we can't do for you on line. Don't be in a rush to buy a board! TRY before you BUY. Rent a variety of types of surfboards, or borrow them from your friends who surf. A surfboard is a big investment.

I ride a twin fin fish, but I also ride a long board and a performance board (not all that well compared to the others) and a neat fun board. But I have been surfing for a long time.

THE REAL BOTTOM LINE IS: Go to a Surf Shop, not a computer. I have been surfing since 1966 and I get my surfboard advice at good local shops at the places where I surf. The pros there can give you the right answers!!

Ask your local surf shop to recommend the size. As for the board a fish is a great choice. I would go for the quad fin because it will be a little loser than a twin fin and turn faster.

well a fish would be a nice board, but go to a surf shop and the guys there will get you the right board and equipment for your beach breaks and your skill level
No all you need is 2 skegs and maybe try a 6 footer board depending your height
